Welcome to Naga City

Naga City is known as the Heart Of Bicol because of its centralized location in the Bicol Region of the Philippines. Naga City residents are known as Naguenos and speak the Native dialect of Bicolano. Naga City is located about 380 kilometers southeast of Manila on the Southern Part of Luzon. It is located in the middle of the Camarines Sur Province.

History of Naga City

Naga City was named from the abundance of Narra Trees, Naga in Bikol. In the mid 1500's, Naga was a flourishing village along the banks of the Naga River. For hundeds of years Naga City has been known for its history of trade, education, and strong catholic culture. Traslacion happens every 2nd Friday of September and this is the trasfer of image of Divino Rostro and Penafrancia which is called "Mahal na Ina". This shows the culture and the strong belief of the devotee especially the Naguenos and the Bicolanos.

Penafrancia Festival

is the biggest and most popular religious event in the Philippines, the Penafrancia fiesta is a week affair that starts on the 2nd Friday of September when the miraculous patroness of the Bicol Region "Mahal Na Ina" or Virgin of Penafrancia is transferred from her shrine to the centuries-old Naga Metropolitan Cathedral where 9 days of prayer are held in her honor is called the "Traslacion" and on the last day, the image is returned to her shrine following the Naga River route and it is called the "Fluvial Procession". The colorful evening procession is lit by thousands of candles from followers in boats escorting the image. When the flatboat reaches its destination, the devotees shout "Viva la Virgen" (Long live the Virgin!) and the image is carried back in a procession to the Basilica.

Parade Festivals

An annual celebration of Penafrancia Festival happened after the traslacion and before the fluvial procession. The ushers in the weeklong festivities which include civic and military parades, sports competitions, agro-industrial fairs, cultural shows, and the coronation of Miss Bicolandia beauties.

The Civic Parade and Military Parade are composed of different schools inside the Bicol Region competing each other to bring fame for their school. This occasion is one of the lively presentation because of the scouts, CAT, majorettes and of course their costumes and uniqueness.

Naga City Camsur Water Complex

One of the prides of the Naguenos located at the Provincial Capitol Complex. It is a man made body of water designed for the riders of wake boarder and wake skater. It has plenty of room to perform different tricks on perfectly smooth water at which have a cable at about 700 m long. There you can see a small island built in the middle of the lake, as well as smooth, sand beaches on all sides.
